Azerbaijan names number of households covered by fiber-optic internet services

BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 4. More than 1.17 million households are covered by fiber-optic internet based on GPON technology in Azerbaijan, Trend reports.

According to Aztelecom [Baku Telephone Service] LLC, this represents 44 percent of the country's households.

The main goal of the Online Azerbaijan project is to build a broadband access network covering the whole country with a minimum Internet speed of 25 Mbit/s by the end of 2024.

International reports on broadband internet speed in Azerbaijan continue to show positive dynamics, as in previous months.

According to Ookla data, the broadband internet speed in Azerbaijan increased from 22 Mbit/s to 29.47 Mbit/s in June compared to June 2022.

The average download speeds for mobile and broadband Internet access amounted to 40.39 (1.41 percent lower than in May) and 29.47 (an increase of 1.13 percent) Mbit/s, respectively, in June of this year in Azerbaijan.

Azerbaijan has retained its position in 116th place among 180 countries in terms of data transmission speed in the broadband network and 59th place among 140 countries in terms of data download speed via mobile access.
