BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 6. The Board of the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA) has approved the "Rules of Payment Transactions and Payment Instruments" this week, Trend reports.

Additionally, it was reported this week that the IT Hub Azerbaijan project is of particular strategic importance for the EBRD as it helps attract investment to the regions of Azerbaijan and creates employment opportunities there.

Also, it was reported that the ICT sector in Azerbaijan is the fastest-growing non-oil sector in terms of revenues.

Moreover, it was noted that 100 students from different regions of Azerbaijan were trained within the framework of the IT Hub Azerbaijan project.

StrategEast president Anatoly Motkin told Trend that Azerbaijan has done tremendous work in the direction of digitalization over the past two years, as well as on diversification of the economic model from exclusively resource-oriented to the knowledge economy.

According to the StrategEast president, the only difference is that Azerbaijan started this development when the western part of the world, which is the main customer, went into recession, and so the technology companies themselves are struggling to keep their budgets there from shrinking.

"Azerbaijan has the opportunity to compensate for that by being able to become a customer itself and is, in fact, a customer for many technology companies because both the telecom, oil and gas, and banking sectors need digital solutions. And it has created new jobs through the hiring of local specialists by international companies attracted to the country," he added.

Motkin also noted that StrategEast will continue to work in three directions in Azerbaijan.
Among the directions are the development of the startup ecosystem in Azerbaijan, the base of qualified specialists, and the popularization of Azerbaijan as a country that is a reliable provider of digital services.
