In 2006 Catel plans to commission 45,000 numbers

In 2006 Azerbaijani-U.S. joint enterprise Catel (Caspian American Telecommunications, LLC) plans to put 45,000 numbers into exploitation. At present the number of the subscribers of Catel, including, in wireless statiomnary communications, comprises 19,729. 6,603 numbers were put into exploitation in 2005.

Besides, the enterprise commissioned a new station in the Shamkir region on 18 January 2006 to expand wireless communications CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) in the regions of the country. Catel has similiar stations in such regions as Ganja, Nabran and Khudat.

The enterprise also takes measures to set netweork in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic and carryies out repair of wireless communication lines in the Lankaran region. The work in this regard will be carried out in the direction of Baku-Ganja (Hajigabul, Jurdamir, Yevlakh, Goranboy) and Ganja-Aghstafa (Shamkir, Tovuz, Gazakh, Gadabay). The same time the enterprise will build stations at the terriroty of the regions Khachmaz, Guba and Gusar.

Catel, the first operator received license on wireless telephone communications at the Azerbaijans communications market, was established by the Communications and Information Technologies Ministry and OMSL (Omni-Metromedia-Caspian Ltd.) in 1997.
