Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan hold negotiations on the construction of the Trans-Asia-Europe fiber-optic main line on the seabed of the Caspian Sea, Trend reports referring to Mahammad Mammadov, the Director General of Aztelekom Production Association (PA).

According to Mammadov, some companies put forward proposals on the construction of the cable. Agreement must be archived both with Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan to implement the work. We have proposal on implementation of a part of the work by ourselves, a part - Kazakhstan. Azerbaijan has advantage, as it possesses ship for laying of cable, Mammadov stressed.

Mammadov voiced hope that agreement on the project would be achieved in 2006.

The construction is due to be carried out in two directions Batumi-Riza and Siyazan-Actau. Azerbaijan will become main transit country after the implementation of the project. Besides, it will have high-speed communication with Western Europe, Central Asia and China. At present Azerbaijan uses only 10% of fiber-optic lines.
