Azerbaijan and Canada Expand IT Relations

The Azerbaijani delegation headed by the Deputy Minister of Communications and Information Technologies made a visit to Canada. The visit took place at the end of October on the invitation of the Director of Thomas International and Co-ordinator of Partnership for Tomorrow Program of the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) Grant Tomas, Trend reports with reference to the Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies of Azerbaijan.

The delegation included the Head Consultant of the Department for International Relations and Work with Non-Governmental Enterprises of the Ministry Rufat Tagizadr and Director of the Center for Information Problem Research Yashar Hajiyev.

During the visit, the delegation visited Ottawa Research and Innovation Centre (OCRI) and met with its President Jeffrey Dale. The meeting was also attended by the Head of the Doyltech Company Denzil Doyle and Manager of the Company Glenn McDougall.

Thereafter, the Azerbaijani representatives held a number of meetings in the Information and Communicational Technologies Department of the Canadian Ministry of Industry. The Head of the delegation I. Mammadov met with the Director of the Department Keith Parsonage and spoke about the reforms and projects carried out in the IT sector of Azerbaijan.

In addition, the Azerbaijani delegation visited the Institute of Information Technologies of National Research Council of Canada and met with the Business Development Director Georg Forester and International Relations Co-ordinator Lorena Maciel. The meeting focused on the prospects of the co-operation between the Canadian Institute and Institute of Information Technologies of the Azerbaijani National Academy of Sciences. Later, I.Mammadov met with the Vice President of Nortel Networks William Neil. Speaking about the current situation of the Azerbaijani communication market, Mammadov stressed that there is a need for applying the services WiFi, WiMax, WiBro of Nortel company.

Moreover, within the visit, the Azerbaijani Deputy Minister met with the representatives of the private IT sector.

The Azerbaijani specialists held meetings in Networks of Centers of Excellence with the Director of the organization Jean Claude Gavrel, Director of Collage and University Program James Murphy, Director of the Information Technologies Department of the Ottawa University Eric Dubois and Director of Precarn Inc Company Tony Eyton.

In addition, the delegation visited Montreal where they held meetings with the Executive Director of the International Telecommunication Institute Louis Brunel and other senior officials of the Institute.

As the Institute is the member of the International Communication Union, it was decided within the Union to hold seminars and scientific-practical conferences in ICT sphere in Azerbaijan.

Thereafter, meetings were held with the Canadian WiMax.
