( Mobilemag ) - It took longer than anyone expected for the details to emerge, but Canon has finally given us a look at the PowerShot S5 IS digital camera. It appears as if it was worth the wait. It has an eight megapixel 1/2.5" CCD sensor, and it features a 12 times Image Stabilized zoom lens.
That lens is potentially cause for a little disappointment, and the FOV at the wide end hasn't been improved over the S3 IS - it's still 36 mm equiv. Another puzzling omission is the lack of RAW support. There are plenty of improvements, though, including face detection, a larger 2.5" LCD display, and a flash hot shoe. The camera measures 117 x 80 x 78 mm and weighs 450 grams without the four required AA batteries.
