A Meeting to Take Place to Ensure Mutual Transmission of TV Channels of Azerbaijan and Russia

Azerbaijan, Baku / corr. Trend E.Huseynly / The Chairman of the National TV and Radio Council of Azerbaijan, Nushiravan Maharramly, said on 5 June that a meeting will take place at the level of working groups in Moscow on 8 June to ensure the mutual transmission of the TV channels of Azerbaijan and Russia.

According to him, the meeting will cover a pack of proposals prepared by both sides with regards to the mutual transmission of the TV channels of Azerbaijan and Russia. Maharramly said that the next meeting will take place in Baku to discuss the proposals. A working group has been created to resolve the issue of mutual transmission of the TV channels of Azerbaijan and Russia. The working group includes the representatives of the Foreign Ministry, Justice Ministry, Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies and AzTV's Broadcasting Council.

The pack of proposals reflects the importance of transmission of Azerbaijani television in 72% of Russian territory. It would be expedient to ensure the transmission of the channels in territories densely populated by Azerbaijanis. The working group has selected by AzTV for transmission in Russia.

According to the decision of National TV and Radio Council of Azerbaijan, the transmission of Russian channels in Azerbaijan should be ceased on 10 July. The Russian side does not support Azerbaijan's position. This issue was discussed during a recent visit of the Russian Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov, to Azerbaijan.
