Aztelekom to Provide CDMA Services on All Territories of Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan, Baku / corr. Trend S.Babayeva / Presently the CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) services provided by Aztelekom Production Unit of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies of Azerbaijan are available in 12 cities and districts of the Country, said the Director General of Aztelekom, Mammad Mammadov.

According to him, by the end of 2008, the service will be made available all over the Country.

"In addition, we are concluding roaming agreements. Recently an agreement was concluded with the operator of the Country, Catel JV. We plan to sign roaming agreements with other operators of the Country," Mammadov said.

Presently the number of CDMA subscribers in the enterprises of the Communications Ministry equals nearly 8.000.

CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) is a multiple access system with code division. It is a wireless technology designed after GSM. CDMA converts speech into digit information, which is then sent as a radio signal across the wireless network. Presented as a commercial product first in 1995, CDMA is one of the most rapidly developing wireless technologies in the World. In 1999, International Telecommunications Union chose CDMA as an industrial standard for new 3G wireless system.
