The number of foreign citizens visiting Azerbaijan increased by 12.6 percent in the first three months of 2018 as compared to the same period of 2017, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Culture and Tourism said in a message April 10.
During the period, 627,835 foreign citizens visited Azerbaijan (185,913 – in January, 166,161 – in February, 275,761 – in March) that is 70,207 tourists more than in the same period of 2017.
Russia ranks first (171,814 citizens) in terms of the number of citizens visiting Azerbaijan, and is followed by Georgia (138,909), Iran (99,158) and Turkey (72,733).
Moreover, there were 29,317 citizens from the United Arab Emirates, 11,847 citizens – from Ukraine and 11,112 citizens – from Iraq, who visited the country during the period.
Most foreigners, who arrived in Azerbaijan in the first three months of 2018, account for the share of the CIS and Georgia (342,457 people or 54.5 percent), Middle Eastern countries (166,976 or 26.5 percent) and European countries (93,122 or 14.8 percent).
