Some 599,760 tourists from Iran visited the EU in the last fiscal year, ended March 20, according to the latest statistics of the Islamic Republic’s Culture, Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization.
The figure indicates a rise by 11.3 percent compared to the preceding year.
Germany was the first destination of Iranian tourists among the EU countries in the 12-month period.
The number of Iranian tourists who visited Germany registered a rise by 8 percent, year-on-year to 2018,300.
The UK was the second destination of the Iranian tourists in the Europe (69,700 people, 40 percent increase), followed by Italy (67,540, 3 percent less year-on-year), Netherlands (62,590 people, 93.7 percent increase), France (57,870, 3.5 percent increase), Austria (52,550 people, 1.4 percent increase), Sweden (29,250 people, 0.8 percent fall), Bulgaria (15,200 people, 19.4 percent fall), Greece (13,800 people, 34 percent fall) and Spain (9,740 people, 100 percent increase).
At least 64 Iranians also visited the US in the last fiscal year, 100 percent more compared to the previous year.
The Culture, Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism organization said that in total, 10.54 million Iranian tourists travelled to other countries in March 2017- 2018, which is 14.85 percent more compared to the preceding year.
In the meantime 257,200 tourists from the EU visited Iran in the last fiscal year, 11 percent less in comparison with the preceding year.
The statistics also indicate that over 2,325 tourists from the US visited Iran in the 12-month period, registering a huge fall by 63.5 percent year-on-year.
Some 5.11 million tourists visited Iran over the last fiscal year, ended March 20, 4.3 percent more year-on-year.
