On December 29, 2018, the UAE airline Flydubai will launch a new route between the Kazakh city of Shymkent and Dubai, Kazakh media reported citing the Civil Aviation Committee of Kazakhstan.

Flights on the Shymkent-Dubai-Shymkent route will be operated twice a week, on Tuesdays and Saturdays, on Boeing-737 aircraft.

"The launch of the flights will contribute to the strengthening of trade and economic relations between Kazakhstan and the UAE, as well as the development of the potential of Shymkent, which this year was given the status of national significance," the Committee noted.

The message also said that from the spring of 2019 Flydubai plans to increase the number of flights on the Astana-Dubai-Astana route from 4 to 5 times a week for the convenience of passengers and to meet the demand in the tourist season.

Flydubai, the government-owned low-cost airline of the UAE, was established in July 2008. Currently, the company's route network consists of 94 destinations in the Middle East, Africa, Asia and Europe. Flydubai is headquartered at Dubai International Airport.

The airline's fleet includes 55 Boeing 737-800 and seven Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft.
