Georgia bears losses due to decrease in number of tourists from Iran

Due to reduced number of tourists from Iran in 2019, Georgia suffered losses in the amount of 260 million lari, Trend reports referring to the Georgian National Tourism Administration.

According to statistics, a decrease in tourist flow from Iran was observed for eight consecutive months of this year.

In August 2019, 18,496 fewer Iranian guests visited Georgia compared to the same period last year.

In total, the tourist flow from Iran decreased by almost 60 percent in 2019.

In the first eight months of 2018, 215,020 Iranians visited Georgia compared to 91,858 visitors from Iran for the same period of 2019.

Iranian tourists carry significant expenses during the trip. According to the data of 2018, one Iranian citizen spent 2,116 lari per visit on average.
