Number of tourists in Georgia increases by over 16%

About 4.7 million tourists visited Georgia in 2018, which is 16.9 percent more than in 2017, Trend reports with reference to the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO)'s report.

The number of tourists in Georgia amounted to 4,756,820 in 2018, which is more by 687,466 tourists compared to 2017. The share of tourism in Georgia`s GDP in the first three quarters of 2018 was 7.6 percent.

According to the National Tourism Administration of Georgia, 4,756,820 tourists visited Georgia in 2018, which is 687,466 more than in 2017.

Meanwhile, according to the UNWTO report, last year, higher growth was recorded in the following countries: Tajikistan - 190.1 percent, Slovenia - 23.4 percent, Turkey - 21.7 percent, Vietnam - 19.9 percent, Iran - 49.9 percent, Nepal - 24.8 percent, Ecuador – 51 percent, Comoros - 28.2 percent, Uganda - 31.9 percent, Egypt - 36.8 percent, Palestine - 20.5 percent.

In 2018, the largest number of tourists in the world visited France (89 million), in terms of income coming from tourism the US with $214 billion is in first place.

The number of tourists in Spain amounted to 83 million, and the tourism revenues of Spain reached $74 billion. Income from tourism in France reached $67 billion.
