Number of visitors to Georgian protected areas growing

The number of visitors to protected areas in Georgia was up 21 percent in October 2019 compared to the same period last year, Trend reports referring to Agency of Protected Areas of Georgia.

In the first 10 months of 2019, 1.1 million tourists visited the protected territories of Georgia, which is an increase of seven percent compared to last year.

Georgian nationals accounted for 49 percent of the visitors, and the remaining 51 percent - for citizens of foreign countries. As reported, the number of foreign visitors has increased 14 percent compared to last year.

During the first 10 months of 2019, 63.5 percent of the tourists visited the following protected territories: the Kazbegi National Park, Martvili Canyon, Prometheus Cave, Okatse Canyon and Tbilisi National Park.

The revenue from Georgian ecotourism in the first 10 months of 2019 reached 9.4 million lari ($3.17 million), which is an 11-percent increase compared to last year.
