Number of arrivals of international non-resident travelers up in Georgia

The number of arrivals of international non-resident travelers (someone who moves between different geographic locations, for any purpose and any duration) in the territory of Georgia equaled 3.4 million in the third quarter of 2019, Trend reports referring to Georgian National Statistics Office (Geostat).

This is 4.6 percent higher compared to the same period last year. Most of the arrivals, 41.6 percent, were made by travelers of the 31-50 age group.

The number of visits by international visitors (non-resident travelers of age 15 or older, who visited Georgia from their area of residence) made up 2.8 million, which is 3.9 percent higher compared to 2018. In the third quarter of 2019, the number of international visitors equaled to 2.2 million that is 1 percent higher compared to the previous year.

Some 67.3 percent of international visitors were only tourists (visitor who spent at least one night in Georgia).

The share of excursionists (same-day visitor, whose trip does not include an overnight stay in Georgia) amounted to 26.3 percent, while 6.4 percent of visitors were both tourists and same-day visitors.

In third quarter of 2019, the largest number of visitors (413,800 visitors) came from the Russian Federation, which amounts to 18.8 percent of total number of visitors and indicates 16.5-percent decrease compared to third quarter of 2018.

In the reporting period, the purpose of the majority of visits (52.8 percent) was holiday, leisure and recreation.
