Iran reveals tourism-related losses of Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad Province

TEHRAN,Iran, April 14

Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad Province in the south-west of Iran, has suffered a 150 billion rials (about $3.5 million) worth of losses related to tourism, because of the coronavirus, said official at the Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicraft Organization of Iran Mohammad Hosseinzadeh, Trend reports citing IRNA.

"The tourism industry in the province has been effected by the coronavirus spread and tourist sights, hotels, ecological resorts, tour leaders and travel agencies have been facing losses since February 20," said Hosseinzadeh.

He added that those tourism-related businesses that suffered damages due to coronavirus will be supported by the Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicraft Organization.

"Meanwhile unemployed individuals in the industry will be covered by the unemployed insurance," he added.

"The Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicraft Organization has prepared plans to attract tourists after the coronavirus pandemic is over," he said.

Tourism season in Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad Province usually starts from February till May. There are around 2,600 historical, cultural and natural sights in the province, that usually has 3 million visitors per year.
