Number of international visitors to Georgia decreases

In March 2020, 209,000 international visitors traveled to Georgia, which is 58.6 percent less than in the same period in 2019, Trend reports citing the Georgian National Tourism Administration.

As reported, in March 2020, the number of international visitors by air decreased by 68 percent year-on-year, while by the land - by 55 percent.

During March, the border regime became even tighter and figures became close to zero in April. At the same time, due to the restriction of economic activity, the operation of hotels in the country was almost suspended, and they only serve quarantined persons.

According to statistics, mostly citizens of Azerbaijan and Turkey crossed the Georgian border in March.

The full rating and reduced figures include Azerbaijan - 43,437 visitors (decrease of 62.9 percent); Turkey - 41,121 visitors (decrease of 45.4 percent); Russia - 32,981 visitors (decrease of 66.5 percent); Ukraine - 7,805 visitors (decrease of 40.3 percent); Israel - 3,620 visitors (decrease of 65.9 percent).

In addition, in March 2020, the visitors from Poland to Georgia reached 2,502 persons (decrease of 9.6 percent); from Kazakhstan - 1,810 visitors (decrease of 62.5 percent); from Belarus - 1,685 visitors (decrease of 40.5 percent); from Germany - 1,666 visitors (decrease of 45.7 percent); from India - 1,336 visitors, (decrease of 74.7 percent); from the US - 1,117 visitors (decrease of 51 percent); from United Kingdom - 1,117 visitors (decrease of 42.5 percent); from Lithuania - 1,096 visitors (decrease of 18 percent).
