BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 17
By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:
The growth rate of Georgia’s international tourist arrivals has improved noticeably in 2Q2021 compared to the previous quarter, Trend reports via TBC Capital.
The number of overnight trips amounted to 96,500 in May 2021, posting a 23 percent recovery of the 2019 level
The dynamics differ by country, with improvement also seen in the region. A more accelerated recovery is observed in Turkey, where tourists are exempt from mobility restrictions.
The number of international visits through Batumi Airport has improved substantially, at -35 percent in May relative to 2019.
Arrivals at Tbilisi and Kutaisi Airports were down by -74 percent and by -83 percent in the same period, respectively.
"As land borders are now open, we expect the recovery to accelerate further on the back of visitors from neighboring countries, which accounted for 71 percent of international visitor trips to Georgia in 2019. Albeit, for visitor countries, the level of the vaccinated population should also be taken into consideration, which is relatively lower in the region," the report said.
