Iran discloses number of new freight cars in its rail fleet

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Dec. 19

There will be 270 more freight cars in Iran's rail fleet soon, Iranian Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development and Executive Director of the Iran Railways Company Saeed Rasouli said.

“Some 456 freight cars have been supplied to the rail fleet from March 21 through December 21, 2019 as a result of the efforts of the state and private companies,” Rasouli added, Trend reports referring to the website of the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development.

“The Iranian Ministry of Roads and Urban Development and the Iranian Plan and Budget Organization signed a contract worth 20 trillion rials (approximately $476 million) in March 2018,” Rasouli added. “In accordance with the agreement, these funds will be allocated by banks as a loan to the Iranian railway companies.”

“At the first stage, Tose'e Ta'avon Bank allocated 5 trillion rials (approximately $119 million), Ayandeh Bank - 2.6 trillion rials (approximately $61.9 million) and the Iran Venezuela Bi-National Bank - 400 billion rials ($9.52 million) and Bank Saderat Iran - 5 trillion rials (approximately $119 million) to the Iranian railway companies,” the deputy minister said.

Rasouli said that 13 percent of the loans accounted for the production of freight cars and 12 percent - the production of passenger railcars.
