BAKU, Azerbaijan, Feb. 12

By Elnur Baghishov - Trend:

The Tehran-Shomal (North) highway has been commissioned in test mode in Iran, Deputy Iranian Transport and Urban Development Minister Kheirollah Khademi said, Trend reports referring to the Young Journalists Club (YJC).

Khademi noted that the two-day test mode may be prolonged if there is any need.

The deputy minister added that this highway will be officially commissioned in the first half of next Iranian month (beginning Feb. 20).

Iran-Shomal highway connects Tehran province to Chalus county of Mazandaran province in northern Iran. The highway consists of four parts.

The length of the first section is 32 km, the length of the second section - 22 km, the length of the third section - 47 km, and the length of the fourth section - 20 km.

The fourth section of the highway was the first to be commissioned in 2015. Taking into account a great number of visits to the Iranian northern regions during the holidays in Iran, this highway is of great importance, the report said.

Over $1 billion has been spent on this highway during the period of the current Iranian government’s activity (which came to power in August 2013). Some 850 billion rials (about $20 million) have been allocated for the road connecting the fourth section of the highway to the third section.
