Order of Kazakhstan’s President Kassym Jomart Tokayev to increase number of international flights implemented from Kazakhstan, serves as a good motivation to reestablish direct flight between Kazakhstan and Lithuania, a representative of Lithuania’s Ministry of Transport and Communications told Trend.

The official reminded that the direct air connection used to be established between Lithuania and Kazakhstan.

“Kazakhstan’s SCAT airlines used to implement flights to Vilnius (Lithuania) from Nur Sultan (Kazakhstan) twice a week. Unfortunately, in Jan. 2019 SCAT decided to cancel these flights,” the official said.

He noted that negotiations on the flight reestablishment are currently being held.

“Lithuanian embassy in Kazakhstan and Ministry of Transport and Communications of Lithuania use every opportunity to talk on this topic in meetings with Kazakh authorities of civil aviation and related to it entities, such as SCAT Company itself,” the official said.

He added that the issue of direct air connection was discussed during XII meeting of intergovernmental commission of Kazakhstan and Lithuania, as well as during the III meeting of working group on transport issues.

“Kazakhstan’s president order to increase number of flights implemented from country serves as a good motivation to reestablish direct flight, connecting Kazakhstan and Lithuania,” the official said.

In 2019, Kazakhstan’s President Kassym Jomart Tokayev has ordered to increase a number of international flights implemented from Nur-Sultan.

According to Tokayev, the number of direct international flights operated from country’s capital Nur-Sultan does not exceed 30 routes, which is not enough.

Furthermore, Kazakhstan's Minister of Industry and Infrastructural Development of Kazakhstan Beibut Atamkulov said that Qatar Airways (Doha city, 2020), Emirates (Dubai, 2021), China Eastern (Shanghai, 2021), Ural Airlines, Pobeda and other air companies are to start operating in Kazakhstan.
