Kazakhstan, Turkey to simplify customs procedures between countries

Joint Customs Committee (JCC) has been established between customs authorities of Kazakhstan and Turkey, a representative of Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Finance told Trend.

The committee was created in accordance to the agreement on cooperation and mutual support in customs concluded between the governments of Kazakhstan and Turkey in Ankara on May 22, 2003.

JCC is to become the main operating authority on customs cooperation between Kazakhstan and Turkey with the objective to activate and systemize joint work, the ministry said.

The committee will also coordinate cooperation between countries in a number of areas, cooperation in joint efforts to simplify, facilitate and secure border crossings and ensure efficient customs formalities.

Within the framework of JCC, exchange of experience and expertise in customs policies and procedures, law enforcement functions, modernization and supply chain security programs, implementation of projects to improve customs control and simplify customs procedures is overseen.

Prevention of economic crimes and ensuring intellectual property rights protection as well as cooperation in order to exchange information in area of risk management system development are also planned within the joint customs committee.

“JCC's meetings will be held in turns in Kazakhstan and Turkey once a year. The date of the meeting and the agenda will be discussed by the parties one month prior to the meeting,” the ministry said.
