In January-February 2020, the passenger flow at Georgian airports amounted to 597,506 people, which is 4 percent less than in the same period of 2019, Trend reports referring to Georgia Airports Association (GAA).
According to the association, 2,923 flights were made at all Georgian airports during the reporting period, which is 11 percent less than in January-February 2019.
Meanwhile, there was an increase in passenger traffic at all international and local airports of Georgia in February, except Tbilisi International Airport.
In February 2020, Tbilisi International Airport served 187,975 passengers, which is 21 percent less than the same period last year.
In January-February 2020, Tbilisi Airport served 399,557 passengers, which is 19 percent less than in January-February 2019. The main reason for this sharp decline was the termination of air communications with China and Iran in connection with the coronavirus. The number of flights at the Tbilisi International Airport also decreased by 23 percent to 2,081 instead of planned 2,707.
In February 2020, a significant increase in passenger traffic was observed at Kutaisi International Airport. The airport served 74,477 passengers, which is 57 percent more than the same period last year. In two months, Kutaisi International Airport increased its passenger traffic by 51 percent to 156,285 passengers.
In January-February 2020, the passenger flow of Batumi International Airport amounted to 40,251 people, which is 33 percent more than in the same period in 2019.
As for local airports, the passenger flow at Mestia Airport in February 2020 increased by 84 percent and amounted to 646 passengers.
Ambrolauri airport served 38 people last month, and passenger traffic increased by 9 percent compared to the same period last year.
In January-February 2020, local airports of Georgia served 1,413 passengers. This is 58 percent more than in the same period of 2019.
