Iran's Yazd-Eqlid railroad in need of more state funds to wrap up construction

The railroad from Yazd province (central Iran) to Eqlid county of Fars province will be commissioned in the current Iranian year (began March 20, 2020) if state funds are provided, said the governor of Abarkuh County Mohammad Kazeminasab, Trend reports citing IRNA.

According to Kazeminasab, a total of 8 trillion rials (about $190 million) funds are needed to finish the construction of the railroad. About 4.5 trillion rials (about $107 million) of the mentioned amount were allocated for the construction last Iranian year (from March 21, 2019 to March 20, 2020).

Kazeminasab added that with the commissioning of this railroad, 7 million tons of cargo and 3 million passengers will be transported annually.

The governor said that and 123 kilometers from the Yazd profince have already been laid. The length of the Yazd-Eqlid railroad is 271 kilometers.

There is about 7,000 kilometers of railroad in Iran's Yazd province this is about 7 percent of Iran's railways in total.

More than 80 percent of mining materials and 70 percent of transit cargo are transported via Iran's Yazd province.
