Volume of cargo handled in Georgian ports of Kulevi, Supsa increases

The total volume of cargo handled at the Georgia's Kulevi and Supsa sea terminals in the first four months of 2020 amounted to 5.9 million tons, Trend reports citing the annual report of Georgian parliament.

This indicator is 8.9 percent more than for the same period in 2019.

From January through April 2020, the number of containers handled in the seaports of Poti and Batumi amounted to 185,655 TEU, which is 1.8 percent more than in the same period in 2019.

"In the reporting period, the volume of cargo handled in Poti port amounted to 140,089 TEU, which is 9.8 percent lower year-on-year. Meanwhile, the volume of cargo handled in Batumi port reached 45,566 TEU, which is by 68.8 percent higher”, the report said.

The port of Poti became a leader in Georgia in terms of processed cargo in 2019 (8.6 million tons).

Supsa sea terminal, which handled 3.7 million tons of cargo, came in second and is followed by the port of Batumi with 3.2 million tons of cargo and the Kulevi sea terminal with 1.6 million tons of cargo.

In 2019, Georgia's seaports and sea terminals handled 17.2 million tons of cargo, which is 2.1 million tons more than in 2018. In 2019, the total number of containers processed in the ports of Georgia increased.
