Romania assigns special importance to the interaction of port of Constanta with maritime ports of Georgia, Embassy of Romania to Georgia told Trend.

"We continue working on the common project of resuming the Constanta - Poti / Batumi ferry connection. We hope that soon we will have a direct line, since this will be the shortest route from Georgia to the European Union (EU)," the embassy noted.

In addition, according to the embassy of Romania to Georgia, the ferry service will facilitate the transport of goods to Europe, not only from the Caucasus region, but also from Central Asia, and vice-versa.

"As you are aware, Romania, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkmenistan are creating a shipping route from the Caspian Sea to the Black Sea. On March 4, 2019, a quadrilateral ministerial meeting in the field of freight transport took place in Bucharest, when foreign ministers from Georgia, Romania, Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan signed a political declaration on the development of the Black Sea - Caspian Sea International Freight Transport Route, opening new possibilities for connectivity and regional development," the embassy said.

Meanwhile, a regular sea container line operated from the Georgian ports of Batumi and Poti towards the port of Constanta in Romania and vice versa from September 2019. This sea container route Georgia and Romania allows to make maximum use of the sea and rail transit potential of Georgia. Furthermore, it reduces the time for delivery of goods to the destination ports to five days on one way.
