Another line of Iran's Karaj-Qazvin railway commissioned

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 18

The second line of the railway between Karanj city of Alborz Province and Qazvin city of Qazvin Province has been put into operation, Deputy Minister for Roads and Urban Development and Executive Director of the Iranian Railways Company Saeed Rasouli said, Trend reports citing IRINN.

According to Rasouli, 5.74 trillion rials (about $136 million) funds were spent on the construction of the 104 km long railway line.

Rasouli added that with the commissioning of this railway line, safety in passenger and cargo transportation will increase.

"Thus, 257 million passengers and 196 million tons of cargo will be transported annually through these railway lines," he said.

The deputy minister said that the Karaj-Qazvin railway is on a transit road. There are 7 stations on this railway.

"With commissioning of the second railway line, 12.7 million liters of fuel worth 2.53 trillion rials (about $60.2 million) will be saved a year," he said.

Rasouli stressed that 165 people were provided with jobs with the commissioning of the second railway line Karaj-Qazvin.
