A total of 5.3 million passengers were transported across Kazakhstan using road transport in 1Q2020, Trend reports with reference to Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Industry and Infrastructural Development.
The volume of cargo transported using road transport amounted to 675.3 million tons in 1Q2020. This includes 2.3 million tons of cargo which were transported on international routes during the reporting period.
This includes 640,000 tons of exported cargo, and 1.7 million of imported cargo. A total of 380,000 tons of cargo were also transited via Kazakhstan using road transport in 1Q2020.
Since the beginning of coronavirus outbreak Kazakhstan took a number of measures to prevent the virus from spreading. Thus, Kazakhstan authorities made a decision to introduce various restrictions on transport operation, including on road transport.
The first two cases of coronavirus infection were detected in Kazakhstan among those who arrived in Almaty city from Germany on March 13, 2020.
The total number of coronavirus cases confirmed in Kazakhstan since the virus was first confirmed in the country amounted to 18,765 cases. This includes 11,585 people who recovered from the coronavirus, and 134 patients who passed away.
