Iran's Railway Company signs contract on purchase of railway transport

The Iran's Railway Company has signed a contract with the Tidewater Middle East Company for the purchase of railway transport and construction of a terminal for the transportation of essential products in the Imam Khomeini and Shahid Rajaee ports, Trend report citing the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development of Iran.

According to the report, the contract was signed by Saeed Rasouli, Deputy Minister for Roads and Urban Development and Executive Director of the Iran's Railway Company Saeed Rasouli and Hossein Zarei, Executive Director of the Tidewater Middle East Company.

“The contract is worth 16 trillion rials (about $380 million),” the report said.

It is planned to transport the necessary products from these ports to the apron logistics center. Thus, the products will be loaded directly from the ship to the freight wagons in the ports and the products will be transported to the logistics center, according to the report.

“The increasing the share of railways in freight transportation, protecting the environment, reducing fuel and air pollutants, reducing road accidents, encouraging the private sector to invest in railways, and upgrading existing freight wagons are envisaged in the contract,” the report noted.

According to the report, the support for increased transit of products by railway and the connection of Iran's railway network to major economic, trade and industrial centers within the North-South corridor are among the opportunities that the contract will create.
