Azerbaijan announces half-year cargo movement by transport

The volume of cargo transportation from Azerbaijan by all means of vehicles amounted to 96.3 million tons from January through July 2020, Trend reports citing the report of the State Statistical Committee of Azerbaijan.

The decrease in freight traffic on an annualized basis was 14.1 percent, said the report.

A significant share of the total volume of cargo transportation (58.4 percent) accounted for road transport, which dropped by 22.1 percent and amounted to 56.3 million tons.

The share of pipelines in the total volume of cargo transportation made up 30.7 percent. The volume of oil shipment fell by 7.6 percent and amounted to 18.3 million tons. The volume of gas transported increased by 12.2 percent, having reached 15.5 billion cubic meters of gas.

The share of maritime cargo shipment accounted for 3.2 percent of cargo turnover, and their volume amounted to 3 million tons, decreasing by 0.2 percent. The oil sector accounted for 33.4 percent of all shipping.

Cargo transportation by rail accounted for 7.5 percent of all traffic, the amount of which equaled to 7.2 million tons. An annual growth amounted to 3.1 percent.

At the same time, cargo movement by air accounted for 0.2 percent of all cargo transportation in the country. Some 186,200 tons of cargo were transported by air in the first half of 2020, which is 2.2 times more compared to the same period of last year.
