It is possible to increase product transit via Iranian ports, given Iran's geographical location, said Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development and Chairman of the Iranian Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO) Mohammad Rastad, Trend reports citing the PMO.
Rastad noted that at present, Iranian ports have the potential to load and unload more than 300 million tons of cargo a year.
The deputy minister stressed that more than 150 million tons of products were loaded and unloaded in Iranian ports in the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2019 to March 20, 2020).
The chairman said that more than 38 million tons of various types of cargo has been loaded and unloaded since beginning of the current Iranian year (March 20, 2020).
In addition, the volume of loaded and unloaded cargo decreased by 28.3 percent since beginning of the current Iranian year (March 20, 2020) compared to the same period last Iranian year.
