Uzbekistan Railways plans to expand railway infrastructure

Some 24 investment projects have been envisaged by Uzbekistan Airways for 2020, as was pointed out at the meeting at the meeting of the Board of Directors of the company, Trend reports with reference to Uzbekistan Railways JSC.

“Among the mentioned projects are such strategically important ones as acquisition of modern trains for the overground metro, the renewal of the locomotive fleet, the Sergeli metro line and the extension of the Yunusabad line, the modernization of Shargunkumir JSC, etc,” the message said.

According to the results of the first quarter of 2020, the second stage of construction of the Yunusabad metro line, the first stage of the construction of the Tashkent aboveground ring metro (Dustlik-Kuylyuk section) and the modernization of the Andijan-Savay-Khanabad railway section were completed.

Among the investment projects, it is planned to complete the construction of the Sergeli metro line by the end of 2020.

“Also during this period, it is planned to complete the project of electrification of the Pap - Namangan - Andijan railway section, which will close the railway ring of the Fergana Valley and launch passenger electric trains between three regions - Namangan, Fergana and Andijan,” the message said.

Also, it was noted that the construction of the second electrified railway line Navoi-Bukhara with the organization of high-speed traffic and electrification of the high-speed railway section of Bukhara-Misken-Khiva route is equally important.

Taking into account that during the pandemic there was a sharp increase in demand for rail transportation, there was an increase in freight transportation by rail. The share of freight transportation in total export of Uzbekistan increased in the first half of 2020, from 75 percent to 87 percent, compared to January 2020.
