Uzbekistan eyes transferring its airports to investors on package principle

The government of Uzbekistan will hand over the airports to investor management on a package principle, Trend reports citing the press service of the head of state.

This became known during the meeting on energy and transport spheres development chaired by President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

"According to the analysis of international experts, modernization of existing airports in Uzbekistan will require an average of $800 million. In this regard, Shavkat Mirziyoyev instructed relevant authorities to develop together with the World Bank, a technical project for transferring the management of Tashkent, Bukhara, Fergana and Urgench airports to investors on a package basis," the report says.

Earlier, Transport Minister of Uzbekistan Elyor Ganiev reported that Uzbekistan will hold tenders to attract foreign companies to manage the country's airports.

Ganiev noted that cooperation with foreign management companies on Uzbekistan's airports will be carried out on the principles of public-private partnership or concession.

Recently, Uzbekistan started modernization of Samarkand International Airport. The project is to be implemented by Turkish construction and engineering Kiklop company jointly with Uzbek Primetime Group company. Enter Engineering PTE is the contractor of project valued at $62 million.
