BAKU, Azerbaijan, Aug. 6

Uzbekistan plans to build a new tunnel through Kamchik pass between Tashkent and Fergana regions, Trend reports citing the press service of the president.

This issue was discussed during the meeting on energy and transport spheres development with participation of President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

It was noted that further development of public–private partnership in the transport and logistics sector would require $27 billion.

"Today, it takes 5-6 hours to travel from Tashkent to Andijan via the Kamchik pass due to traffic jams. With the launch of the Tashkent-Andijan toll road, the travel time will be reduced to three hours," the message said.

In this regard, the head of state stressed the importance of announcing a tender for the construction of a new tunnel through the Kamchik pass. The agreement with the tender winner is to be signed by March 2022.

Another tunnel is planned to be built through the Takhtakaracha Pass between Samarkand and Shahrisabz cities. The construction agreement with the winner of the tender is expected to be signed in May 2021.

The document also provides for the construction of three toll roads - Tashkent - Samarkand, Tashkent – Andijan and Bakht - Syrdarya. Contracts with the winners of tenders for their construction should be signed in 2021.
