Turkmenistan, Russia to establish regular ferry service between their ports

Turkmenistan and Russia have discussed oppoertunies to establish regular ferry services between the Russia's Olya and Makhachkala ports and Turkmenistan’s Turkmenbashi International sea port, Trend reports with reference to “Zolotoy Vek” (Golden Age) newspaper.

The discussions were held during a videoconference of the Russian delegation led by Russian Deputy Minister of Transport Yury Tsvetkov with officials of Turkmenistan’s Turkmen Deniz Derya Yollary Agency (Turkmen State Service of Maritime and River Transportation), Turkmenistan Railway, and Turkmenawtoulaglary Agency (Turkmen automobile service).

The parties stressed that regular ferry service on the Turkmenbashi-Makhachkala and Turkmenbashi-Olya routes will facilitatetransportation of food, construction materials, wood products, polymer products, diesel fuel and other petroleum products.

The sides also agreed to level the rates for vessel calls will be leveled following the to the creation of ferry routes.

The trade turnover between Turkmenistan and Russia increased by 2.7 times during 1H2020, compared to the same period of 2019. Last year, the trade turnover volume amounted to $1 billion million.
