As many as 83 ships will be manufactured domestically for the Iranian Ports and Maritime Organization, Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development and Chairman of the Iranian Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO) Mohammad Rastad said, Trend reports citing PMO.
According to Rastad, it is planned to allocate 240 million euro and 55.7 trillion rials (about $1.32 billion) for the manufacturing of these ships.
Rastad added that some spare parts for the manufacturing of ships will be imported.
The deputy minister emphasized that some of these ships are already started to manufacture, and contracts for the manufacturing of other ships will be signed in the current Iranian year (began March 20, 2020).
"Some of these ships will be used in maritime search and rescue operations, and some will be used for technical and safety inspections of ships," he said.
The chairman noted that some of these ships will be guide ships, firefighting ships, tugboats and other types of ships.
