By Nargiz Sadikhova – Trend:
Significant decrease in the transportation volumes by air is observed in Kazakhstan due to the COVID-related restrictions on flights implementation, Kazakhstan’s Civil Aviation Committee told Trend.
Thus, the number of passengers served in Kazakhstan’s airports decreased by 47 percent over eight months of 2020 compared to the same period last year and amounted to 6.2 million people (11.8 million people during the same period in 2019).
In turn, the number of passengers transported stood at 3.2 million passengers, which is 43 percent less than in the same period of 2019 (5.6 million people).
Furthermore, the volume of cargo transported stood at over 13,000 tons, which also is 21 percent less than during the same period of last year (16,600 tons).
“The negative dynamics were influenced by the restrictions imposed on flights in Kazakhstan due to the coronavirus pandemic. In the airports of the cities of Nur-Sultan and Almaty the volume of cargo turnover has decreased by half on average,” the committee said.
In addition, the committee said that due to the restrictions imposed the flights of the following airlines were suspended to Nur-Sultan and Almaty: Aeroflot, Lufthansa, Fly Dubai, Somon Air, Mahan Air, Pegasus Airlines, Ural airlines, Asiana Airlines, S7 Airlines, Air Arabia, Belavia, Uzbekistan airways, China Southern Airlines, Air China, LOT Polish Airlines, Uzbekistan Airways, Etihad airways.
