Volume of cargo transportation in Azerbaijan declines on annualized basis

The volume of cargo transportation by all types of vehicles amounted to 140.6 million tons from January through September 2020, Trend reports citing data from the State Statistics Committee of Azerbaijan.

As reported, the decrease in cargo transportation in annual terms was 18.5 percent.

A significant share of the total volume of cargo transportation (59.1 percent) fell on road transport, which amounted to 83 million tons (a decrease of 26.7 percent).

Pipelines accounted for 29.9 percent of cargo turnover. The volume of oil transportation amounted to 26.6 million tons. The volume of gas transported amounted to 21.5 billion cubic meters of gas.

The share of sea transport accounted for 3.1 percent of cargo turnover, and their volume amounted to 4.37 million tons (a decrease of 2.4 percent). The oil sector accounted for 32.4 percent of all shipping.

Railway transport accounted for 7.7 percent of all traffic, in the amount of 10.8 million tons. The decline compared to last year's indicator for the same period amounted to 1.4 percent.

Air transportation accounted for 0.2 percent of all cargo transportation in the country. 316,500 tons of cargo were transported by air, which is 2.4 times higher than the indicators of the same period last year.
