Passenger traffic at Georgian airports down

Passenger traffic at Georgian airports decreased by 81.2 percent due to the closure of borders caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, Trend reports via Georgian media.

The coronavirus has hurt air traffic not only in Georgia, but all over the world, some companies even went bankrupt.

In January through September 2020, Georgian airports handled 777,053 passengers on regular and non-scheduled flights, while in the same period of 2019 - 4.1 million, but even these figures do not reflect real situation, since they include data for January through February 2020 before the pandemic struck.

In 2018 the passenger traffic at Georgian airports declined by 80.2 percent.

In 9 months of 2020, Tbilisi airport carried 537,220 passengers against 2.9 million people in the same period of 2019 that is 81.2 percent less.

Passenger traffic at the Batumi airport also decreased by 90 percent. Passenger traffic at Kutaisi airport decreased by 71 percent - from 450,417 to 182,217 passengers.

Georgia began restarting aviation on August 2, 2020. Regular flights are operated in the Munich, Paris and Riga direction.
