Kazakhstan considering to resume bilateral maritime traffic with Russia

Kazakhstan is considering the issue of resuming bilateral traffic between the ports of Atyrau and the Russian ports of Astrakhan and Volgograd, the country’s Vice Minister of Industry and Infrastructure Development Berik Kamaliyev said.

Kamaliyev made the statement during the Plenary Session of the Kazakh Parliament, Trend reports referring to Kazakh media.

According to him, through the resumed traffic it’s planned to carry out the export of fodder shells and the import of consumer goods.

"By 2025, it’s projected to bring the volume of river traffic in this direction to 1.5 million tons," added the vice minister.

As earlier reported, the parliament had ratified an agreement facilitating the movement of Kazakh vessels in the internal waters of Russia.

Currently, there are three operating seaports in Kazakhstan: Aktau, Bautino, and Kuryk.

Nowadays, Aktau International Commercial Sea Port is a modern multi-purpose terminal that allows the transportation of goods from East to West, from North to South and back 12 months a year and 24 hours a day.

Bautino сargo port is a division of Aktau International Commercial Sea Port and is located in the village of Bautino (150 km from the city of Aktau), in the waters of the Bautino Bay of Tyubkaragansky Gulf.

Kuryk Port is located on the coast of the Caspian Sea, south of Aktau city. The port has direct access to the railway. The ferry complex of the port is designed for the transshipment of goods, including grain, petroleum products, fertilizers, and chemicals.
