Turkmen, Kazakh Railways discuss measures to activate railway transport

Turkmenistan’s Türkmendemirýollary (Turkmen Railways) and the national company of Kazakhstan "Казахстана Қазақстан темір жолы" (Kazakhstan Railways) discussed measures to activate the railway transport and transit corridor, Trend reports with reference to Business Turkmenistan information portal.

The discussions were held during online negotiations between representatives of the Turkmen and Kazakh Railways, as well as the Kazakh Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Kazakhstan to Turkmenistan Yerkebulan Sapiyev.

In particular, the parties discussed pricing policy to activate the Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran railway transport and transit corridor in the North-South direction, conduct large-scale measures to improve the reliability of the railway system, increase the volume of railway cargo flows, effectively use the potential of international transport and transit corridors to increase container traffic, further increase the volume of transit cargo flows and expand their geography.

The importance of the project of modernization and electrification of the section of the Turkmenbashi-Ashgabat-Mary-Turkmenabat railway was also discussed and issues of cooperation on the implementation of this project were considered.

As earlier the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan told Trend, Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan are implementing the new projects in the transport sector.

The new project in the field of transport and logistics cooperation between Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan is the construction of the highway from the Turkmen side to the border with Kazakhstan and the bridge over the Garabogazgol Gulf.

The ministry noted that the implementation of this project will allow increasing trade turnover, the volume of freight and passenger traffic.
