Georgia plans to lift international flight restrictions from February

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Dec.14

By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

All international flight restrictions are planned to be lifted from February in Georgia, said the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Natia Turnava, Trend reports via Georgian media.

She made the remark at the presentation of the 2020 activity report of the agency.

According to the Minister, despite the pandemic, infrastructure projects carried out by the Ministry of Economy have not been hampered, including airport expansion projects.

"The project to expand Kutaisi and Batumi International Airports will soon be completed, and we plan to lift all restrictions on international flights as early as February, and the upgraded infrastructure will host visitors and serve our citizens," the minister said.

During the coronavirus pandemic, the volume of industrial activity indicators of Georgia's airports decreased by 60 percent, and passenger traffic by 82 percent, said the Civil Aviation Agency.

"The general assessment is that the COVID-19 pandemic has caused enormous damage to the aviation industry. In the case of Georgia, this is an average of 60 percent reduction in takeoffs and landings, and an 82 percent reduction in passenger traffic in 10 months," the report said.
