Auto prices to increase in Iran

TEHRAN, Iran, Dec.30

Trend:

Iran's Competition Council is to announce conditions for the increase of auto prices for 18 models of cars and a 50 percent increase of production on February 20, said the chairman of Competition Council.

"The council has approved to change prices of 18 models of cars, the decision would create an opportunity for automakers to increase production," said Reza Shiva, Trend reports citing TASNIM.

"The average production should increase by 50 percent in next month in order to be part of increased prices plan," he added.

Shiva went on to say that the new price was made based on quality and increase of production, the council seeks to eliminate dealership and economic rents that were due to price difference. The automakers would move towards the increase in production however apart from the two major Iranian automakers (SAIPA and Iran Khodro), three other domestic automakers would increase production if obstacles are lifted.

"If the production increases the costs of finished products would be reduced therefore increase in auto price in the condition of production rise, would be profitable for the automaker and lead to a logical price. However, if automakers could not increase their production in February there would be less increase in prices for their products," he noted.

Shiva also pointed out that the increase of prices are set for Peugeot Pars, Peugeot 207, Samand, Soren plus, Rana plus TU5, Dena plus turbo charge, automatic Dena plus, Haima, Tara, Saina, Quik, Shahin, Ario, Brilliance, and Changan.
