Georgia to deepen cooperation for the development of Baku-Tbilisi-Kars

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Feb. 20

By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

Completion of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) project will significantly reduce the time required to transport goods between Asia and Europe, which will allow Georgia to attract additional cargo, Trend reports via the program of the new government of Georgia for 2021-2024.

The document emphasizes that Georgia will continue to integrate into international transport systems and deepen regional cooperation to increase the competitiveness of the transit corridor.

"It is planned to work with partner countries to digitize the transit corridor, which will increase the efficiency and sustainability of cargo transportation through Georgia," the program says.

According to the government program, work will continue in Georgia to develop container traffic in order to increase the share of rail freight.

It is also explained that the completion of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway project will significantly reduce the time required for the transportation of goods between Asia and Europe.

The BTK railway has been built on the basis of the Azerbaijani-Georgian-Turkish intergovernmental agreement. It can greatly reduce the time of delivery of goods from China to Europe via Azerbaijan, which makes this route especially attractive.
