BAKU, Azerbaijan, Mar. 1

By Elnur Baghishov – Trend:

There are a number of problems on the railway lines between Iran and Turkmenistan, and work is underway to resolve them, Iranian Minister of Roads and Urban Development Mohammad Eslami said, Trend reports citing the ministry.

He made the remark at a meeting in Iran's Golestan Province attended by Iranian Vice President Eshaq Jahangiri and other local officials.

Eslami noted that a joint committee has been set up for resolving of barriers on Iran-Turkmenistan railway lines. This committee is currently working.

The minister added that one of the problems of the Incheh-Borun railway line between Iran and Turkmenistan is that the 200-meter-long part of the railway line is wide or narrow. This problem will be solved soon by removing legal barriers.

"Due to the format of the connection of the Iran-Turkmenistan railway lines, the Incheh-Borun railway line has not yet been fully put into operation," he said.

According to him, the arc of the rails in Iran is larger than in Turkmenistan. When the Incheh-Borun railway was put into operation, it was declared that the expansion of railway lines in Turkmenistan would be carried out. On some parts of the railways, Iran's railway line should be expanded in line with Turkmenistan's. This problem has not been solved yet.

Eslami emphasized that work is underway to resolve the existing problems between Iran and Turkmenistan. So, necessary conditions should be created for the establishment of joint industrial parks and shopping centers in Incheh-Borun.
