Kazakhstan reports decrease in cargo transshipment via seaports in 2020

Some 5.4 million tons of cargo were transported through Kazakhstan’s seaports of Kuryk and Aktau in 2020, which indicates a decrease as compared to 5.8 million tons in 2019, Trend reports citing Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Industry and Infrastructural Development.

The ministry noted that 3.6 million tons of the transported volume were sent off for export from Kazakhstan. The main goods categories exported from Kazakhstan via ports are oil, grain, and metal.

In turn, around 815,600 tons of cargo were imported to Kazakhstan via seaport. For the most part, the imported goods were consumer goods, food, cement, equipment, etc.

Furthermore, around 842,100 tons of cargo were also transited through Kazakhstan’s seaports. The goods transited mostly were consumer goods, tobacco products, frozen meat (poultry), textiles, medicines, food, spices, equipment, chemicals, building materials, etc.

Currently, three seaports in Kazakhstan render the services to vessels of various tonnage, namely, Aktau, Bautino and Kuryk.

Aktau seaport is located on the eastern coast of the Caspian Sea at the intersection of several international transport corridors.

Bautino cargo area in the settlement of the same name is a subdivision of JSC NC Aktau International Sea Trade Port.

Kuryk Port is located on the coast of the Caspian Sea, south of Aktau city. The port has direct access to the railway. The ferry complex of the port is designed for the transshipment of goods, including grain, petroleum products, fertilizers, and chemicals.
