Kazakhstan publishes 2020 containerized cargo handling figures

The volume of cargo transportation in containers through the seaports of Kazakhstan increased by 9 percent in 2020 compared to the same indicator for 2019, the Ministry of Industry and Infrastructure Development of Kazakhstan told Trend.

As the ministry noted, during 2020, more than 5 million tons of cargo were handled through seaports, which is 10 percent less compared to 2019.

Accordingly, the exports amounted to 3.6 million tons, the import – 815,600 tons, transit – 842,100 tons.

"At the same time, the volume of containerized cargo transportation increased by 9 percent, and the volume of transshipment of freight vehicles increased by 2.2 times," the ministry said.

Currently, in Kazakhstan, services to ships of various tonnage are provided by three seaports: Aktau, Bautino, and Kuryk.

Aktau seaport is located on the eastern coast of the Caspian Sea at the intersection of several international transport corridors.

The ‘Bautino’ cargo area in the Bautino village is a subdivision of Aktau International Sea Trade Port NC JSC.

The port of Kuryk is located on the eastern coast of the Caspian Sea, south of the port of Aktau, in a natural bay. It is capable of receiving road and rail ferries all year round.
