Uzbekistan’s passenger cars production down in 1Q2021

Production of passenger cars in Uzbekistan from January through March 2021 decreased by more than 40 percent and amounted to 44,454 cars, Trend reports with reference to the State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan.

According to the State Statistics Committee, the production of cars, trucks, buses and automobile engines in the first quarter of 2021 continued to decrease at the enterprises of the automotive industry.

Thus, in 1Q2021, 12,682 Cobalt cars were produced (growth rates compared to the same period in 2020 amounted to 71.4 percent), Nexia - 6,958 (33.6 percent), Gentra – 8,399 (58.1 percent), Damas - 12,051 (92.9 percent), Spark - 1,800 (21.8 percent) and 2,564 Labo cars (74.4 percent).

Also, 891 trucks were produced in the country during the reporting period (decrease of 12.1 percent compared to 3M2020), 147 buses (52.9 percent), 31,500 automobile engines (51.2 percent).

At the same time, the share of enterprises for the production, repair, assembly of machinery and equipment, the production of cars, trailers, semitrailers and other finished products in the volume of the manufacturing industry amounted to 15.4 percent (the physical volume index amounted to 88.5 percent against 3M2020).

It is reported that a number of companies are showing interest in investing in the machine-building industry of Uzbekistan, organizing production.

In this regard, the head of state instructed to introduce equal conditions for manufacturers based on the level of localization. It was emphasized that at the same time it is necessary to direct investments in the industrial assembly of cars, the production of 50,000 - 60,000 budget cars and electric vehicles per year.

In addition, this year, an enterprise for the production of body parts will be put into operation in the Khorezm region, four more localization projects will be implemented in Andijan, two projects in the Navoi region. Within the framework of the cooperation platform, 122 private enterprises will master the production of 80 types of parts.
