Assembly of electric vehicles to be launched in Uzbekistan’s Fergana industrial zone

Uzbekistan plans to launch an assembly production of electric cars in Fergana small industrial zone - the production capacity will amount to 30,000 electric cars per year, Trend reports referring to Uzbek media.

According to the information, it is planned that the project will be implemented by Central Asia Ceramic, manufacturer of ceramic products, sanitary ware.

It is reported that the commissioning of the facility worth 520 billion soums ($49 million) is scheduled for November 2021. The production capacity of the plant will amount to 30,000 vehicles per year.

In September 2019, president of Uzbekistan visited the Kokand free economic zone in the Fergana region. Then it was reported that the Schaffof Omadli Sanoat private enterprise from 2021 will begin production of electric vehicles in conjunction with the Chinese Silk Road Company.

In March 2021, the Ministry of Finance of Uzbekistan proposed abolishing the levy on domestic purchases of electric vehicles and their temporary import.

Earlier the State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan reported that 91 electric cars were imported to Uzbekistan from abroad from January through March 2021.

During the first three months of the year, electric cars were imported to Uzbekistan mainly from China - 56 cars. Turkey is second in the list of main electric car suppliers to Uzbekistan with - 24 electric vehicles. It is followed by South Korea, Germany and US, who exported three electric cars to Uzbekistan.

In addition, the committee noted that the number of imported electric cars in recent years has significantly increased. Thus, 13 electric cars were imported by Uzbekistan in 2018, 19 cars in 2019 and 131 cars in 2020 ($2.9 million).
