BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 5
By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:
One of the main tasks of the Georgian government is the development of transport and logistics infrastructure and the implementation of projects that will increase the transit potential of the country, said Deputy Minister of Economy Guram Guramishvili, Trend reports via Georgian media.
He made the remark during the presentation of a report on this issue.
According to him, among such projects is the expansion of the Poti port, in which the APM Terminals company will invest $170 million.
“The expansion of the Poti port includes the construction of 6 new berths, as well as an increase in a container and dry cargo transportation. The state will contribute to the implementation of this important project - in particular, it will donate land plots to the company,” the deputy minister said.
According to him, the construction of a deep-water port in Anaklia remains a priority for the Georgian government, and a tender for this project will be announced in the coming days.
“Unfortunately, the company, which had previously won the tender, failed to fulfill its obligations; accordingly, the contract with it was terminated. The process of identifying a new company is now underway to build a port in Anaklia. Documentation is being prepared, all the conditions that will be mandatory for investors are being determined. We hope that we will be able to get a new port, which will become a powerful tool for the development of the country's transport infrastructure for Georgia,” the deputy minister said.
